The floor plan for the living unit was designed to be functional, affordable and sustainable. The 2 bedrooms, 1 bath unit has approximately 1100 square feet with a private courtyard and patio area. The open floor plan allows for the parent to have their children in view at all times. Large windows provide the sense of a larger living space and allow natural light to flow in. Large canopies provide shade and help to keep the units cool. The economically sensible cmu (concrete block) walls are extremely strong and provide great thermal mass as well as sound insulation for added privacy. The rear of the units would have a partial earth berm to help with the heating and cooling and an overall sense of security and safety. The duplex units share back-to-back plumbing that is energy efficient and also cost effective.
